Juhannus
2003

| Since 1997 the Finger Lakes Finns have been gathering at South View Farm, home of Hemmo and Patty Huttunen, for Juhannus. The weather was better than forecast, but less than perfect. Nevertheless, the hardy Finger Lakes Finns were swimming, taking sauna, fishing, and enjoying music, good food and good company. Two kokkos [midsummers eve bonfires] were built, as for last year, including the largest kokko ever for this site. Unfortunately it began to rain so hard that neither was lighted that evening. However, at a similar gathering for the Kymi Wind Band the following week, the larger kokko was finally lighted. We expect there will be more news of the event in the next newsletter. |
