Finger Lakes Finns

Proclamation

Whereas, Finland gained independence in 1917 after a century of domination by Russia, and

Whereas, Finland persevered in the Winter War of 1939-40, and unlike other countries, managed not to become a Soviet satellite, and

Whereas, Finland was the only country to repay its World War I debts, and

Whereas, Finland has developed a strong educational system, and

Whereas, Finland has preserved their cultural heritage in music and the arts, and

Whereas, Finland has developed industries such as the manufacture of paper, glassware and Nokia telephones, and

Whereas, Finnish Americans everywhere are proud of Finland existing as a democracy over these 90 years,

Now therefore be it resolved, that the Finger Lakes Finns of Central New York State, an organization open to anyone of Finnish origin or with an interest in Finnish culture, congratulates Finland and its people on the 90th anniversary of its independence.
